Private Pay Therapy
“I intentionally structured Curated Coaching & Counseling as a private-pay practice so that clinical decisions stay centered on the people sitting in my office, rather than on what an insurance company determines is reimbursable.”
~ Diana Wile Sellars, M.S., LMFT
Why Curated Coaching & Counseling Is a Private-Pay Practice
Insurance reimbursement frequently requires a mental health diagnosis and documentation demonstrating medical necessity.
That structure can make sense in many circumstances. It does not necessarily fit every reason people seek therapy.
- A couple struggling with communication may need meaningful professional support without one partner necessarily having a mental health disorder.
- Parents navigating divorce may need help protecting their children from conflict.
- A person may seek therapy because they want to understand patterns before entering another relationship.
Not every difficult chapter of being human is necessarily a disorder.

Using insurance also introduces a third party into the treatment relationship.
Private pay allows greater discretion regarding the treatment process and greater flexibility in determining the focus and duration of therapy based upon clinical need.
Can I use out-of-network benefits?
Yes.
Although Curated Coaching & Counseling does not directly bill insurance, I can provide a superbill upon request.
You may submit the superbill to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
Reimbursement is determined entirely by your individual insurance plan, so I encourage clients to contact their insurer directly regarding their out-of-network behavioral health benefits.
